At the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery , Toowoomba Ikebana Japanese floral arrangements greet you at the door along with an enthusiastic volunteer who will explain the displays. The exquisite floral arrangements are annually donated by the Sogetsu School during the Carnival of Flowers .

Top marks for originality with a Bird of Paradise arrangement wrapped in rope, yellow lilies and thistles plus peach and lemon flowers accompanied by both dried and green foliage. The floral arrangements are displayed throughout the gallery.

A Creative Spirit, an exhibition of watercolours by Douglas Annand (1903-1976), is currently featured. Presented by the Gordon Darling Foundation, it is the most extensive survey of watercolours by Annand.

After leaving a bank job, Annand worked for Reed Press in plate making and printing. He lived in a variety of locations around Queensland and New South Wales. His treatment of perspective and compression of spatial values is impressive. The exhibit includes 'Swan', 'Moored Boats', 'Hong Kong' depicting Chinese junks and many other works including a poster for Ocean Line Pacific Cruises and one for Sydney Harbour Bridge Celebrations 1932. 'A Creative Spirit' will be displayed until 25 October 2015.

In the Irene Amos Gallery you'll find sound effects from an MP3 player hidden behind a large glossy photo entitled 'Heidelberg Bridge over Merri Creek' by Cara-Ann Simpson. A secret moment has been captured below the bridge over a teal-blue stream, while sound was recorded of the street life above.

Contemporary Wearables are displayed in the corridor and in one of the galleries until 1 November 2015. 'Captivity Armbands' of brass and stainless steel wire were beautiful simplicity matched with meaning by Anika Williams.

Acid yellow and blue bangles of anodised aluminium by Yuri Kawanabe intrigued. Angular chunky rings 'Five Rings with Moving Parts' of titanium and sterling silver glinted with diamonds. A silver and stainless steel 'Helix' shone as a strand of metal beads.

The Art Gallery is currently holding a competition to win $1000 simply by selecting your favourite piece of wearable art from the numbered display. To enter the contest, visit the Gallery Shop where you can also purchase stunning cards, jewellery or gift items.
