One might just think it is a different world and you would not be wrong to think so. Toowoomba is in a different LGA to Brisbane. So when we went up at the weekend, we thought we had stepped back into pre-COVID days. There was not a mask to be seen anywhere. There was a carnival atmosphere and people were having a really good time. The live music program in the park was excellent and the pop-up shops for wines and food were busy serving all day and all night, while thirsty and hungry party-goers enjoyed themselves.

Our primary reason for being there were the flowers - but the carnival is so much more than just the flowers these days, so check out what is on offer here .

The Carnival is on until the 30th of September. The private gardens are open from the 17th to the 26th of September. The Grand Central Parade will take place on Saturday the 18th of September at 10 am.There is a night garden powered by Ergon with light installations and illuminations. There is a plethora of tours and experiences to be had from walking tours to architecture, to cabbie capers and getaway tours - but let's get to the real stuff of why this is all taking place and it is, of course, the flowers.

We visited Queens Park and the Botanic Gardens and loved the carefully planned borders and beds, the vibrancy of the colours, the contrasts, the planning and their originality. This is an atmosphere of fun and laughter with families and young lovers, grandparents and teenagers all enjoying what the park has to offer, with shady spots under 100-year-old trees where you can sit and listen to the live music, sip your coffee or pose for that special selfie.

We visited Laurel Bank Park, which had even more elaborate flowers - firstly a scented garden for the visually impaired. Then topiary of all sorts of iconic places, including the Sydney Opera House. There was a topiary of a train, which was just so much fun for kids but also adults and a cherry blossom avenue of such beauty. Who needs to go to Japan to see them!

Finally, we climbed up to a small platform to enjoy the dinosaur park. They were different - all made of flowers and just spectacular with the words I see a dinosaur written in flowers below us.
Here is my favourite the velociraptor.

And that is not all, there is Picnic Point with stunning views. The iconic Railway Station called Spring Bluff is a sight to behold at this time of year. The Japanese Gardens and Boyce Gardens. So much to choose from and just a mere hour and a half from Brisbane.

So take time this September to transport yourself to a scented and freer world of the .
