For one day only, on 1 May 2021 from 10am to 7pm, the streets and laneways of Toowoomba CBD will be filled with musicians and artists displaying different forms of music and performances at the Toowoomba Busking Festival, which is a busking competition. Be sure you've got the date written in your diary to head out to the CBD and Walton Stores to listen to buskers filling the streets with music. There'll also be family-friendly activities, entertainment, and a chance to sample some of the best food and drinks Toowoomba has to offer. Vote for your favourite busker to win the People's Choice Award.
This event is run by the non-profit organisation, Youth With A Mission Toowoomba with an aim to bringing life and business to the downtown area and support the arts and artists over the Labour Day weekend. If you'd rather perform with an eye on the prize, apply here. Busking prizes include Cash (cash prizes yet to be determined) prize for first placed Busker, as decided by judges, plus Cash prize for People's Choice Award Busker with the most votes and Buskers placing 2nd and 3rd. There'll be Draw Prizes from sponsors, networking opportunities and much more.
For the buskers, it's a chance to share their talent, and it could well be the big break they've been waiting for. Buskers will be given between 2-4 performance slots at designated locations in the CBD of Toowoomba like Ruthven and Margaret Street. Each set will be 25 min long with a 5-minute strike/set up window. This preliminary round will be old-school busking; just the busker, their instruments and the city around them.
During the preliminary round, judges will be watching the performances and picking the top buskers for the finals. These finals will take place on the main stage where finalists will get a shot to sway the judges and take home the grand prize. With People's Choice Award in play, even if buskers don't make it to the finals, there's a good chance they'll still walk away with some great prizes, so vote away if you catch a sound that speaks to you as you walk by. Stay in touch via Facebook for updates closer to the date of the event.
