It has been almost a year since Toowong Village had some of its old layers peeled back to make way for change, and there certainly was a lot that went on.
The travelator from the upper parking lot was taken out to make way for a new relocated one. Some places of business left for good, including The Book Bank, that is also no longer in its second location. We look forward to them finding a new place to house their over 20,000 books. Other places of business kept on going, despite all the dust, construction, and maze of walls you had to manoeuvre your way around. You can still find them in their original locations.
The library is just as packed full of people as it was back then, a bonus for all the seniors, students and youngsters who like to hang out there and where people can still go and check out the books they have been meaning to read.
Sophisticated, stylish, modern, upscale, clean and fresh, all are words that can describe the new look. The bold carpeting on the floors and furnished sitting areas are decorated in neutral shades of greys, blacks, and beiges all married together to create a new feel.
It is intimate yet spacious, welcoming and a great place to meet up with friends over coffee, lunch, or to just sit for a while in one of the seating areas spread throughout, where you can people watch or wait for the shopper you came with.
The ground level is business as usual and the newly revamped food court is joined by a handful of new restaurants located outside on the open deck where High Street meets Sherwood Road. With the addition of these new dining experiences you will want to come back several times.
The Gallery level is more for personal shopping, including shoes, an assortment of clothing and jewellery stores, homewares and other items. Did I mention shoes?
Level 1 (the top floor) is a plethora of pampering. Up here you can get a hair cut, massage, have a facial, go for a pedicure and look after your wellbeing. Maybe after all the pampering you can hit the Chatterbox restaurant and lounge bar for the view that is part of the new addition up here.
In the Toowong shopping centre where is the post office now? Where is the computer shop? These are two businesses that I regarded as essential and are sadly missed. (P.O. across the High street, computer help in Milton)
