It was such a lovely day so I decided to drop in on the Toorak French Affaire around 5pm even though it had been a long morning for me. I was immediately charmed by the unexpected. Perhaps I just wasn't quite sure what to expect to start with. I knew market stalls were involved and that the event was going for a piazza type atmosphere. For me it wasn't quite the 'market' I was used to, nor the full-on piazza atmosphere. Tablecloth laden tables and pockets of people gathering made it feel more like a garden party. Regardless, it was all rather charming.
The recipients of this fundraiser are more than deserving of your help. Even though the event is over, please feel free to continue to help by donating to Save the Children, or contact the CWA about donations. You can also purchase CWA cookbooks that contain recipes from association members which are very popular and can be bought within the office premises at 3 Lansell Road, Toorak. Friendly office staff will welcome you to browse and buy as there are more than just cookbooks for sale. If you know what you would like to purchase you can download the Public Order Form and return it by Fax (03) 9826 1710 or you can email email@example.com For more information call (03) 9827 8971.
The beautiful premises of the CWA in Toorak and the knitted poppies waiting to take their place in the planned Garden of Reflection and Remembrance.
I did a quick walk around checking out the beautiful building that was the CWA and came upon some knitted poppies which seems to be popular this year as it was a theme that made an appearance at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show as well. It seems the ones I saw are ear-marked for the Garden of Reflection & Remembrance for WWI. According to a sign attached to the poppies, CWA members are currently making 2000 of them in various mediums which will cover the backdrop, the archway and the edges. Then there are plans for rosemary plants, which when larger will circle the 'real' poppy plants and will have forget-me-nots around the edges. Sounds like a plan.
After a good wander and something to eat and drink I left and didn't stay long enough to see who won the 'best dressed chic Madam and Monsieur' awards. However, I did manage to have a little look-see at all that was on the premises, so come along and check it out with me below. This stall was selling Sleeptex bedding products but had no card when asked. The pamphlet handed out gives the number (03) 9808 1288 or 0417 866 088 for info & sales enquiries. The gorgeous young lady was the gentleman's daughter who was selling gorgeous tealight holders and Vance Kitira handcrafted candles. Again no card.
This lady does not have a shop, website or card. She just brought in lots of jewellery and handbags she had from a previous business. She's keen to sell them all wholesale so if you like what you see, do try and contact her through the CWA
