The invigorating scent of coffee and freshly cooked breakfast, blended with the sound of content conversation and laughter, is what I look for when searching for the perfect weekend, or even mid-week breakfast rendezvous.

And, my recent move to the Gold Coast instilled a little worry about the prospect of having to say goodbye to one of my favourite past-times – the enjoyment of a delicious breakfast/brunch experience.
So, was I to give up this indulgence in exchange for lesser traffic, deserted beaches and endless sunny days? Surprisingly the answer was no. Upon my arrival, I quickly realised that cafe culture has also found it's 'oh so sweet' and tasty way to this beautiful part of the world.
And, before long I had picked my favourite haunt amongst a sizable selection. Toolona Street Food Store, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tugun's main drag, is a haven for coffee, smoothie, tea and even juice lovers.
Featuring an awesome set-up with in- and out-door seating, quirky paintings, cosy lighting and plenty of interesting reading material, it doesn't leave anything to be desired when it comes to the perfect morning indulgence.
For your pickings
The service is warm and friendly, topped-off with relaxing music played in the background. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced, especially considering the fact that the owners try to, as much as possible, source their ingredients from local artesian producers.
My recommendations would definitely be the scrumptious 'Grande' (mushrooms, avocado, grilled tomato, two poached eggs on sourdough and seasonal greens), simple 'Eggs on Toast', or for a lighter option the fresh and zingy 'Breakfast Bruschetta' (sourdough, grilled tomato, mushrooms, fetta and greens). Top this off with a delicious Acai Smoothie, which by the way is pretty much a meal on its own, and you are on your way to a literally fulfilling experience.
For a quick snack grab one of their home made muffins, cakes or savoury treats displayed near the cash register. And, if you want to take a piece of goodness with you, I urge you to ask for a bottle of eggplant relish – I promise you will be back for more.
If you live nearby or are on your way through - Toolona Street Food Store really is worth a try.
