Buy shoes for yourself and support a worldwide cause
Most of us are familiar with the brand of shoes TOMS, but for those that are not, TOMS is the idea that one man (Blake Mycoskie) had to create a sustainable business which helps children around the world growing up without shoes with his 'One for One' concept.
You buy a pair of TOMS shoes, and in return TOMS promises to give one pair of new shoes to a needy child somewhere in the wold for every pair purchased. It is said that millions of shoes have been given to children around the world since its inception in 2006.
Their newest campaign promotes TOMS eyewear. With every pair of eyewear sold, TOMS gives the gift of sight to those in need through prescription glasses, corrective surgery and medical treatment through their giving partners around the world
TOMS is American based which means their products have taken a while to reach Australian shores. You can buy TOMS online and have them shipped to Australia, but they are not stocked in many retail stores around the country.
Last September, TOMS partnered with Wise Foundation, to open a Pop-Up Store in Melbourne's iconic Flinders Lane shopping precinct. Wise Foundation began a joint venture with the international philanthropic retail brand TOMS to raise much needed funds for Wise Foundation projects in Australia, East Timor and Samoa.
After the success of the last Pop-Up, there is a second one that has just launched within The Body Shop in Bourke Street Mall, which will trade for the month of March.
