There's always something new popping up on Chapel street when you're not looking. Tommy Ruff Fish Bar is one of these events that took place; opening its 3rd location at 121 Chapel Street, Windsor on Wednesday 21 December 2016. This new fish bar is just adding to the mounting agreement that Windsor is now the trendier end of Chapel Street to be seen at, where you'll be spoilt for choice with the number of eateries available.
I would have walked past oblivious had it not been for young Josh standing at the doorway taking the initiative to entice customers in. Charming and friendly, and the decor fresh and enticing, I of course, was willingly caught in the net to check out this new establishment. Being just the day after opening, owners John and Helen happened to be about, probably watching their baby take its first steps. Being a real family affair, their children Peter, Estelle and Marissa can also be counted amongst their staff.
With Oysters, Poké, Fish Ceviche, Fish Wings, Southern Fried Fish, Mussel Pot, Paddle Crabs, Seafood Chowder and more listed on the menu, this is not your ordinary fish and chippery. The fish plate specials of Wild Barramundi, Flathead Tails, and King George Whiting come served with accompaniments like a super salad, house made curry, Jasmine Rice and such like.
There's the usual 'catch on a plate' from which you can choose the seasonal fish of the day, or other available fish. Add your chosen sides and sauce and you have what is akin to what we expect of a fish and chip meal. Tommy's packs don't support alterations but make up for it with catchy related names like The Lure, Rod & Reel, Squid Jig and so on.
You'll be surprised to find a lamb gyros plate amongst the selection of Tommy's famous buns like Stump Jumper, Spiked, Salmon Burger, Crab Claw Burger and more. Platters to share will be prepared on demand and the little popper at $9.50 plus chippies are perfect for kiddies.
With around 30 years experience in the industry, you're in good hands at Tommy Ruff . Like their Facebook page and stay abreast of the news. The decor fresh and new, complete with fishing rod lighting and other sea related trimmings and decorations, sitting down for a meal at Tommy's is not going to be Ruff at all!
