Walking into Tommy and Me Café is like walking into a friend's family home. There is the smell of coffee in the air, kids are playing together, toys are on the floor and cake is being passed around. The staff welcome you with a smile and you instantly feel at home.
Meanwhile your kids walk in and start eyeing off the toys, the floor to ceiling chalkboard, the TV playing kids shows and on the day we visited, the allure of a craft table.

Comfy couches, chalkboard, toys and winter sun to enjoy your coffee.
Twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) Hayley holds craft classes with the younger kids (free with a hot drink purchase) and on Tuesday afternoons it is Craft Club (3:30pm - 4:30pm) for older kids aged 5-10 for a cost of $5.

June 2015's craft classes for Mondays and Wednesdays.
We booked in our daughter Miss Four to do cheeky monkey cupcake decorating. Check their Facebook page for updated news, craft classes, availability and how to book.
Miss Four enjoyed her time with Hayley (who has a patience that only comes with working with children for a long time) and was more than happy to eat her creation afterwards.

Cupcake decorating activity for kids.
The other diners at the Café are also very friendly. I got chatting to a lady at a nearby table who comes regularly with her sister as the kids can have a play with new toys, run free within sight and the Mums can have a lunch for under $10 - a lot cheaper than other cafes.
This feature of the Café is definitely a highlight - they sell delicious cakes, turkish rolls and bagels from their display cabinet as well as a Breakfast and Lunch Menu with items all under $10.50 on the whole menu. This would have to be one of the cheapest cafés in Canberra for families and makes it more affordable for larger families to eat out together.

Tommy and Me is open at 8am, 7 days a week, however it closes at 5:30pm weekdays, 4pm Saturdays and 1pm on Sundays.
During the week Breakfast is served until 11am, however on the weekends it is available all day, so you can take your time getting the kids ready Saturday and Sunday.

A pretend kitchen to play with, just around the corner from the real one.
This Café is in a handy location across the car park from Kings Swim Centre, so if you or your child needs a pick-me-up before or after your children's swimming lesson then this is ideal.
If you would like a quiet space to utilise the free Wi-Fi, there are also a few outside tables and chairs to sit back in and enjoy the sun.
"Tommy and Me" is a small café, with a big following. The family orientated menu (with the largest Kids Menu I have ever seen, with every item under $6.50), toys to play with, delicious food and chatty Mums, it is a café that every family will enjoy.
Miss Four can't wait to return to try out more craft classes and for me, I'm looking forward to trying out more from the budget-friendly menu and having another cute little pot of tea.

Cute pots of tea, kids size milkshakes in glass mugs with straws, toasted banana bread and a newly created monkey cupcake....the perfect morning tea

Tommy and Me, Macgregor - small on the outside but big on warmth on the inside.
