There are many unusual events on around Sydney and I would rate a tomato festival in this category. Fortunately, I just love unusual events and anything that is out of the ordinary.
So the Tomato Festival Sydney is one that will be very interesting! Many of us grow our own tomatoes and some of us still buy them but no matter where you get them from, you will be able to celebrate the humble tomato in a weekend-long festival at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. This award-winning festival returns for the sixth year on 16th and 17th February 2019.
This year, there will be new things happening at this festival as well as all the old favourites. As summer is in full swing, the days are getting longer and now the summer fruit and vegetables are ripening, it is time for tomatoes! This, in turn, can only mean the Tomato Festival Sydney!
They will be fresh from the vine, canned, sundried, crushed and liquefied – however, you choose to use them this annual Tomato Festival celebrates the versatile dishes that we can create from the simple tomato.
During the festival, there will be both ticketed and free events on the foreshore lawns, including the Longest Tomato Lunch. This will feature a 70-metre long communal dining table for an excellent spread of tomato-inspired dishes. This will be on Saturday and Sunday, from 12.30 pm until 2.30 pm. The tickets will cost from $43 to $78 and you can book yours
here.
It will be a four-course Italian lunch designed by the 2 Michelin Stars and multi-award winning chef, Luca Ciano. The menu includes share plates and individual items and this is similar to a traditional Italian family feast.
The menu is as follows:
