Celebrate the wonderful world of tomatoes
Have you ever heard of a Pink Bumble Bee or a Green Zebra? Have you ever crossed paths with Big Beryl or Tiny Tim?
If you answered yes, congratulations, you certainly know your tomato varieties! But for those of us who may still be grappling with the age old question - Is the humble tomato a fruit or a vegetable? - don't despair, the Tomato Festival is coming to Sydney this February. We are all invited to celebrate the wonderful world of tomatoes on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February, from 10am – 4pm, at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

There will be heaps of fun and tasty tomato-based activities, complemented by close friend of the tomato, the fragrant and diverse world of herbs.
There will be both free and ticketed activities for every tomato lover including:
Enjoy the harbour views and a lunch hamper for two at the longest tomato lunch. You will dine at a 70 metre long table set up on the foreshore lawn of the Royal Botanic Garden. The tomato inspired menu includes:
chilled Spanish tomato gazpacho
sweet red and yellow pear cherry tomato, cherry, bocconcini, aged prosciutto, basil vinaigrette salad
semi sundried tomato focaccia, pepe saya butter
tomato braised chicken, chermoula spice red & white quinoa, pumpkin, currant, chilli eggplant
coconut quinoa cream, rhubarb, beetroot and tomato salsa
cranberry and coconut chocolate brownie
Enjoy the tomato inspired menu at the Longest Tomato Lunch
The Longest Tomato Lunch will run from 12.30 - 2.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Lunch hampers and drinks can be collected from 12 noon. Best in Show Competitions
Have your home-grown tomatoes got what it takes to be Best in Show? If so you can enter the home-grown tomato competition. Judges will consider the colour, smell, flavour, texture, overall appearance and weight (in some categories). For more information or to enter please click here.

Children can try pizza making or go on a Tomato Odyssey Adventure
Children's activities will include pizza making (bookings and tickets required click here) and the Tomato Odyssey Adventure which promises an action-packed adventure around the Mediterranean to enjoy fun Greek-themed activities including Herculean tomato throwing, Olympian sack races, and more! Relish pop-up café & bar is open from 11.30am - 1pm daily and will tempt you to taste innovative tomato-inspired dishes
Talks and cooking demonstrations - there will be free gardening talks and cooking demonstrations including tomato pickling, tomato sauce making and Bush Tucker - head to the Cooking & Learning Hub
Free Guided Walk - explore the gardens with a guide at 10.30am daily. The one hour walk will incorporate the treasures of the Herb Garden.
Free Diggers Heirloom Tomato Taste Test will be held from 11.30 - 1pm daily where you can taste a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes, and you may even discover a new favourite.
