Gloucester Park to become a giant bowl of salsa
UPDATE: This event has been cancelled.

Organisers: "We regret to inform that due to harsh weather conditions in WA recently, this has led to a destroyed tomato supply, prompting us to cancel the upcoming Perth Tomato Battle.

All ticket buyers will receive a refund or can choose an exchange to the upcoming Color Me Rad event, next week on March 13th at Ascot Racecourse. Refunds will be processed in 30 - 45 days.

We are extremely disappointed in this outcome and apologise for the inconvenience to our participants. If you have any questions, you can reach us at for assistance."

Ever dreamed about heading to Spain for the massive tomato festival La Tomatina? Or perhaps you've been there and had a blast- now the tomato fun is about to come to Perth.

Tomato Battle will be held in Perth on March 5.

About 300,000 tomatoes are expected to be thrown as part of the event.

Now before you say- "what a waste" read on...

All fruit is either unfit for human consumption, sitting fallow in the fields or on it's way to recycle before Tomato Battle uses it.

While Tomato Battle is a FOR profit company- it donates a portion of the proceeds to feedONE, which works to fight hunger around the world.

As part of this partnership, the organisers of Tomato Battle commit to feed a minimum of 100 children for a month as a result of each Tomato Battle event.

Organisers say Tomato Battle is inspired by Spain's La Tomatina and Germany's Oktoberfest, festivals that bring people together for good times and good food.

Gates open for participants at 1pm and the first tomatoes will be thrown at 4pm.

As well as creating a huge amount of salsa by flinging tomatoes at your friends and strangers, there will be music and costume clad characters.
