Tom Yum Tum Gang

Tom Yum Tum Gang is a name that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and isn't easy to remember, however, this restaurant at 249 Glebe Point Road in the bohemian inner west suburb of Glebe may represent the best value Thai food in Sydney, especially if you are there for lunch.

The lunch special (which is available from 11am to 5pm) is currently $8.50 for vegetarian, chicken, beef or pork and $11 for seafood. The food is fresh and service is usually quick. The popularity of the place can mean that at peak times you may end up sharing a table or have a short wait, particularly if you are a large group of people.

Even with the lack of 'special' during the evening, the place still represents value for money.

No. 35 on the menu.

For those eating alone, you can borrow a copy of the Sydney Morning Herald or The Daily Telegraph to read whilst you eat.

The massaman curry comes highly recommended and is perhaps the best dish in terms of quantity of food.

Unlike an increasing number of budget places, the restaurant has a toilet. Only cash is accepted for payment. A small piggy bank sits next to the cash till in case you feel like leaving a tip.
