Tom Gerrard is an Australian painter who currently lives in Melbourne. His art has been on the streets since the mid-90s. He's globally known for painting simplified characters, architecture and nature, inspired by places he's seen and places he's been.
He started out painting graffiti and has transitioned to a fine artist. Just this year in August, he introduced
George (image below), his first limited edition ceramic sculpture made with 100% Australian porcelain. The handmade limited edition ceramic featured an embossed signature and certificate of authenticity. Twenty of them came with an original painting, and of 100 ceramics, only 50 pieces were available in an online release. Once the design is sold out, George will never be revisited; and naturally, they're all sold out.
Gerrard recently moved to a new studio, and is having a new studio pop-up event on
Saturday 26 October 2024 from 11am to 2pm at Unit 103, 5-7 Carlton Street, Prahran. Just three hours, be sure to get there on time to be one of the first to see what's on offer in paintings, prints, and paperwork. I myself have a treasured original of Tom's work - the fabulous men's heads he is famous for. He did say that a lot of the time when people ask for his work, it's the heads they're after. I guess it's because they're so iconic, and immediately recognisable as Gerrard's work. You'll see from his
Facebook page that he's been exploring some modern versions of older ideas, and admits to a manic work style, bouncing between different paintings and subjects.
The painting in the poster (1st image) was inspired by a trip Gerrard took to Byron Bay in July 2021, when he got stuck there for 4 months due to the border closure. He titled the painting '20 Shot Sequence' - which was a snapshot of his time in Byron Bay. Living in the Chapel Street Precinct, I pass Tom's artwork on the street, in shops, on meter boxes, and on walls (see image below) daily and I love them all. I'm a repeat offender in taking pictures of his artwork and posting them on Instagram. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see Gerrard's much sought-after work in a pop-up event, and who knows, even meet the man himself to talk about his art. You can follow Tom on social media, to stay up to date with his art journey -
