An Underwear Revolution
Ladies, do you sometimes find men's clothing more appealing to you than women's clothes? Do you find yourself wanting to express the masculine side of your identity by wearing men's clothes? Are you frustrated by the fact that fashion has always been very specific about which gender wears what?
You are not the only one. Frustrated by gender role stereotypes that dictate what men and women can and can't wear, owner and entrepreneur Clarita Farrugia was inspired to launch Tom-Boi, a brand that caters for 'the Boi in every girl'.
The Melbourne based company launched its debut underwear line on Monday 1st December 2014 at The Flamingo in South Yarra. Surrounded by friends and family, Farrugia, asserted the brand's objective which is: to cater to women who want the style of men's fashion and who are not afraid to be themselves. After a trip in the Uk, Farrugia decided to venture into this niche market after noticing a lack of clothing options for women who want to wear men's clothes.
The collection, consisting of women's briefs, boxers and boy legs, comes in 6 different colours. The colour palette is made up of the standard black, white and grey for those who like their basic colours but there's also bold blues, pinks and purples for a jazzier look with prices ranging from $14.99 to $22.99. All styles are made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane for optimum comfort. Details include a signature Tom-Boi elastic waistband and a cheeky fly opening for the boxers.
The brand prides itself on being more than just about profits and commits to donating 50% of all net profits to ShareTree, a not-for-profit that aims at creating greater equality in society by educating, engaging and empowering people throughout the world.

Farrugia states: "You know when you put something on and you feel good, it just makes a big difference and I want to help with that in the world somewhere…everywhere".
