What does it mean to be a token ethnic in south east Queensland? What does the phrase token ethnic even mean? I wasn't born in Australia, but I've learned to do a passable impression of the Australian accent since moving here, where does that place me on the scale of supposed acceptance? As a white male, it could be worse.

Of course, all of these boundaries are arbitrary, and many people aren't even aware of their heritage just three generations back, let alone going any further. That doesn't stop some from finding ways in which to label who is within their acceptance group, and who is not, based on prejudices that sometimes not even their subconsciouses can comprehend.

Heavy stuff no? Well, that doesn't stop Ting Lim and Stephanie Tisdell coming together to put on a show as part of Bris Funny Fest which tackles cultural identity head on. Though rather than being some sort of debate or lecture, this is a comedy show. Subjects such as these could be risky in the hands of lesser comedians, but with Ting and Stephanie, you know this is going to be an absolute riot.

Singaporean-born Ting Lim is a respected name on the Brisbane comedy scene. With an undeniable charm, her unique observations about life have made her a gem on any lineup.

Long since representing Queensland in the RAW national comedy finals and representing her home state in the "Green Faces" national competition in the same year, she has become a regular booking at the Sit Down Comedy Club and has performed internationally, supporting the likes of Jimeoin, Matt Okine and more.

Stephanie Tisdell is an Aboriginal comedian, based in Brisbane, who in a short time, has made a name for herself tackling the struggles of being an outsider with brazen, irreverent flair.

She was awarded the coveted "Funniest Aboriginal Woman in Australia" after winning Deadly Funny, in 2014. She then moved to Scotland where her engaging stage presence meant she quickly became a regular at the famous Stand Comedy Club, supporting the likes of Tom Stade, Danny Bhoy and Wil Anderson amongst others.

Stephanie was a semi-finalist in the illustrious So You Think You're Funny competition at the Edinburgh Fringe and was runner-up for Hilarity Bites Best Newcomer. Her skill as a comedian has seen her perform on lineups time and time again based on her own merit.

Join Ting and Stephanie as they explain to you just what a Token Ethnic is. It's sure to be an absolute hoot.
