Adelaide is about to host an Aboriginal Mass, led by Adelaide's new Archbishop, Patrick O'Regan. It will celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders at St Francis Xavier's Cathedral on Sunday, July 5.
An initiative of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council, the national Mass will be accessible to people around Australia through live streaming on the Archdiocesan and NATSICC websites. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday is usually celebrated in churches across the country to mark the beginning of NAIDOC Week but the COVID-19 restrictions prompted the council to revise its plans. The theme of this year's event is Together in the Spirit. Resources will be available at www.natsicc.org.au
Archbishop O'Regan said he was looking forward to celebrating this significant event for the Australian Church in his new archdiocese of Adelaide, on the land of the Kaurna people. The mass on July 5 will commence at 11am.
