TOD TALKS kicked off at the Adelaide Fringe with a back pocket full of momentum. Two friends, Michael Gatt and Owen Merriman, developed the hilariously funny formula for a laughter-filled roller coaster ride driven by a group of winning improvisation comedians from Australia and as far as Edinburgh. I am convinced that Michael and Owen are onto something really big with this formula and I can't be too far off; the guys were contacted by TED Talks the American media organisation that harnesses the slogan "ideas worth spreading". Not only have Michael and Owen come up with a great idea and caught the eye of a major media juggernaut, but they also packed the Rhino Room from wall to wall for their run at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Wall to Wall Laughter
You really can't go wrong getting out to a TOD Talks show. You will laugh. You will be in a room full of other people laughing. You will hear the TOD Talks slogan more than once - TOD Talks 'Terrible Ideas Improvised" It's a funny slogan but it's not a bad idea. The format of the show has comedians and improvisation masters subjected to random questions and items that they spin into laughter machines. Score keeping and a computer generated slide show are all a part of the formula. But I can't give it all away, you simply have to go and see a TOD Talk near you.
With musical backgrounds one an Engineer and the other a graphic designer Michael and Owen are down to earth nice guys who are humbly talented and as friendly as they come.
TOD TALKS Creators
They remind me of the Steve Jobs of Comedy producing, casually creating a genius formula that I believe the TV networks might just be looking for in the very near future. This is a vehicle for Australian talent to join the ride on our own red earth and one that can surely be taken on the road. I for one would love to see this concept in Edinburgh and the Montreal Comedy Festival. Fasten your seatbelts boys, I think the roller coaster may just pick up speedů
