Recently, the girls decided that we all needed to catch up for dinner and drinks. I had no particular restaurant in mind but my friend suggested that we should check out Tipsy Bull on Lonsdale Street as she wanted to try out some of the restaurants there.
We arrived early in the evening, as we didn't have a booking, however, this wasn't a problem for the staff who were able to promptly find us a table. They then gave us the drinks menu which offered an impressive variety of cocktails as well as over 230 different gins. With so many international and local gins on the lists, I of course ordered a gin and tonic. The gin came out on a paddle with ice, tonic water and a number of things to add like lemon and apple. The idea is you take a sip of the gin and then add as much or as little of the things on the paddle to mix your perfect gin and tonic.
With drinks sorted, we turned our attention to food, the menu is divided into a number of sections including nibbles, small plates, from the garden, and large plates, with the idea being that the plates are shared. As the plates were designed to be shared, I was disappointed that only one of the large plate was vegetarian. I was dining with two vegetarians, so it was annoying we only had the option of one large plate.
Despite the lack of vegetarian items, we were able to still order a number of small dishes including the Knead Sour Dough with whipped ricotta, topped with herb ash, White bean hummus with crackers, Gruyere Croquettes, garlic cauliflower and the tomato risotto. I loved all the dishes that came out as they all tasted amazing, and it seemed they were made with care. However, I think my favourite dish was the cauliflower, I have never tasted cauliflower that tasted that good!
The staff were also very attentive, with staff checking in periodically to ensure everything was running smoothly and to answer any questions we had. Our dishes were also served at a good pace, which is important with tapas style dining, so we weren't rushed or waiting too long for the next dish to come out!
The great food, the helpful staff and relaxed atmosphere at Tipsy Bull made for a lovely girl's night out!
