This is for all the virgins of the massage world - here are some tips on what you should look for when getting a great massage.
Firstly, I am by no means an expert, however, in the last two years I have developed a healthy addiction for walk-in massages. Having at least one on a weekly basis, I have come up with what I think are the key areas for a great massage.
1. Price - $1 for 1 minute
Some would argue the more you pay the better the massage, however it really depends on the individual masseur.
My rule of thumb is $1 for 1 minute is a good price.
2. Environment - Quiet
A shop that preferably has entry door to block out outside/shopping centre noise. There is nothing worse than getting a $60 massage, only to hear the screaming of children because they want ice cream.
3. Feeling Comfortable - Clothes on or off?
For those of you who have already decided you want to keep your clothes on because you can not bear the thought of stripping down, just remember, they have seen worse!
Clothes on or off can also depend on the type of massage, for example Thai or Chinese.
4. The Masseur - Tell them what you want!
A good masseur will ask you what you want to focus on in the massage, what pressure you would like the massage in and check on you regularly during the massage.
5. The Feeling - How do feel?
On 2 occasions I have fallen asleep and even once farted, that is how relaxed I was.
Other times I have shown up with bruises all over my legs and arms. This all depends on what your intention of the massage was either be relaxation or to relieve back pain etc.
I hope this helps anyone thinking of getting a massage.
