Kuitpo Forest is a favourite place for walkers, horse riders and picnickers. Among the collection of reserves owned by Forestry SA are two popular trails worth a visit. These walks take the visitor through plantation pine forests, the forest floor a carpet of pine needles and pine cones.




Kuitpo forest is a reserve devoted to sustainable timber production and native flora conservation. It also provides habitat for native fauna and water catchments. The reserves are situated between Meadows and Willunga. Dogs are allowed on leads. There may be restricted areas in the forest network due to operations in progress, so avoid these areas. Also avoid steep, muddy or loose trail surfaces.



Walking in this landscape there are of glades of the Australian bush. Grass trees (Xanthorrhoea) and Eucalypts form a rich habitat for all to enjoy. There are quite a few fairly steep climbs along this trail, but views looking back over the forest are the reward.



Bush walking here can be as strenuous as you make it. There is no hurry and the silence and tranquillity of the forest make this a real haven. Walking among the tall pines can also be refreshingly cool. The golden and rust coloured pine needles give way to hills full of gums.



A great place to trek, but as always take a water bottle, wear a hat and sensible walking shoes. The forest is home to many kangaroos and other native species so ensure your dog is well controlled on a lead. All reserves are closed to the public on Total Fire Ban days.



Jack's Paddock Trail
This walking trail is part of the Kidman trail and also has camping areas. It is a place of Eucalypt woodlands and is designed for those camping with horses.




Kuitpo Forest is worth the finding for peaceful walks among the pines and the beauty of the Australian bush. A place to get fit and healthy in quiet surrounds.

Location
Kuitpo Forest is situated in the South Mount Lofty Ranges, 45 minutes' drive from Adelaide, near the township of Meadows.
From Adelaide you can take the Main South Road, then turn off to Clarendon and Meadows, or take the South Eastern Freeway to Hahndorf, then turn off to Echunga and Meadows.

The entrance to both these trails is opposite the turn off to K1 Winery.
