Located in Capalaba West, just 17km east of the CBD, is a haven for nature lovers, especially those who enjoy bushwalking or horse riding. It is also a haven for animal lovers, with the opportunity for the extra lucky to see Australia's native wildlife including koalas and wallabies! Best of all, this reserve allows dogs to accompany their owners, provided that they remain on a leash at all times. It's hard to believe such an untouched area is located so close to the city.

There are two main areas in which to park, with the first being Sunnydene Road (which is where we parked), or Chadwell Street (where we walked to). It doesn't necessarily matter which one you park at, because the walk from Sunnydene Road to Chadwell Street through bushland only takes approximately 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. Things to consider when deciding which one you want to park at - Sunnydene Road does not have an actual car park, but there are plenty of grassy areas to park, whereas Chadwell Street has multiple parking spots, including disability spots.

Regardless of where you park, remember when bushwalking the importance of checking out the map, figuring out which route you are going to take, and be on the lookout for signposts during the walk - there's nothing worse than getting lost when you're here for a leisurely stroll! The walk between Sunnydene Road and Chadwell Street is only 950m, which is very manageable for the average person. The Creek Circuit, starting from near Chadwell Street, is also manageable, at a 2km return hike.

As with all places, there are some rules that need to be followed, including:
- Dogs on leash at all times
- Horse riding only on permitted trails
- No cycling
- No motor vehicles
- No camping or fires

The path from Sunnydene Road takes you through beautiful bushland areas - it is nice and shady, and there are lots of sights you can admire along the way. The paths are generally quite wide, but do be mindful of nature's obstacles that one might expect to find while bushwalking, such as fallen trees and/or branches, spiderwebs, and horse excretion (as there is a horse riding trail here).

En route to Chadwell Street Picnic Area, you will pass by a fishing platform that grants amazing scenic views of Tingalpa Creek. For the fishing enthusiasts out there, good news - you can fish here! There's even a fish cleaning station on site, along with a TAngler Bin (where you place unwanted fishing lines) courtesy of Oceanwatch Australia . This is a great idea, as it takes us one step closer to saving our wildlife.

Continue in the direction of Chadwell Street, and you will soon reach the Chadwell Street Picnic Area. There are plenty of shady gazebos with picnic tables for a rest or a bite to eat, along with an electrical barbecue - being relatively quiet, it's a great place to host a family outing or a children's birthday party. There is also a massive information board containing information on the Bayside Parklands - a green ribbon of parks protecting a variety of connected land and marine habitats.

Once you've had a rest and/or a bite to eat, continue ahead to find a ramp, and a resting area that like the fishing platform, provides great views of Tingalpa Creek. In fact, from here, you can see the fishing platform itself!

Eddy and I had such a fun bushwalk - because there weren't many photos published online that we could find, we were unsure of what to expect. has everything we could have asked for - a viewing platform (that doubles as a fishing platform), water and barbecue facilities, shady areas for a rest, and amazing views. I still can't believe all this could be found so close to the CBD!
