There are many constants surrounding the idea of a Saturday morning. Firstly, it's a great time to finally be able to sleep in a bit without hearing Triple R's Breakfasters yammering at 6.30. Secondly, it's time for me to get the hell out of bed and make my wife her cup of tea. And thirdly, it's the short stroll to the corner milk bar to purchase a copy of the Saturday Age. Ah, Saturdays ... I do love you so.

But one needs to eat, doesn't one? Sure, my powers as Super Omelette Man are vast and mighty, but Saturday mornings armed with a coffee and the paper serve as the equivalent of Kryptonite to me and I am more often than not rendered powerless in the face of laziness. Stomachs begin growling, and the decision is often made by my wife and I simultaneously: "?"

It's a short, leisurely stroll to the corner of St Georges Street and Scotchmer in the heart of lovely Fitzroy North, where makes its home. Maybe the first thing you'll notice when you enter is that it's rather busy. Maybe you'll notice how enticing the smells of brunch being prepared and served are. Maybe you'll be engulfed by the absolute warmth and the welcoming vibe Tin Pot offers. Doesn't matter, 'cos once you're sat down (it's a rather large place with an eclectic scattering of available seating) and have your menu in front of you, it's time to make a decision regarding what you're going to have.

Another thing Saturdays provide is the excuse to enjoy a glass of bubbly with your brekky – and that is what I inevitably do, whereas my wife usually goes with a tasty glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. The coffee here is excellent as well; if lattes are your thing, then you'll be quite happy with the quality.

I usually order the fried eggs (over hard) on toast with a side of sausage and an order of bacon. I LOVE that bacon; it's the exact firmness and crispiness I prefer, and the sausage is rich and meaty. No matter how you enjoy your eggs, you'll be sure to get them done the way you ask. My wife usually does scrambled, and the fluffiness of her order is testament to their skill with the eggy arts. Another aspect of their brekky awesomeness involves their Eggs Benedict. A lot of places I've been to in the past seem to have had problems getting their hollandaise sauce just right. Not so at Tin Pot; it's creamy and rich just as it should be.

A couple of things to keep in mind about Tin Pot, though: it does get busy, and sometimes the waiter might seem to be ignoring you. This is easily rectified by flagging one down. Once you've made eye contact, the service is timely, friendly, and efficient. Another thing: it does tend to get a bit loud. I liken this to a side effect of the place being so damn welcoming and warm.

So there you have it. . A welcome addition to any self-respecting Saturday, armed with a bit of laziness and a newspaper. Go for it, and you'll be rewarded!
