Fire up your dropsaw, sharpen up your angle grinder and get ready for Australia's premier woodworking show, the
Timber & Working With Wood Show . This is the expo you can't miss if you're a weekend hobbyist, a do-it-yourselfer, even a tradie who wants to see the latest and greatest of equipment - or brush up on old techniques.
I have to confess I'm a fan of woodworking. Back in a former life, I even had a shed fully stocked with tools and equipment that would have been the envy of many carpenters. Alas, these days I only get to wish I had the time - and the shed.
The Show features hundreds of woodworking products, suppliers and experts, and the latest operating machinery. You get to test state of the art tools and see the industry's best in action. You can learn more in a single day at the expo with the experts than you could in a whole year studying product literature and catalogues. Here are some of the experts:
TIM SKILTON - Woodturner
Tim Skilton is the brains behind the
Skilton Power Sanding System . Tim developed the "Come & Try Woodturning" program, with over 1000 participants across Australia. He's passionate about showing the 'next generation' of wood turners what a fantastic creative artform this is - for men and women of all ages.
NEIL & LIZ SCOBIE -Makers of fine furniture.
You'll discover how to inset different types of hinges, make framing joints, drawers and table tops; how to get the right finish for your project, creating textures and decorative surfaces using stamps, blocks and stencils.
STAN CEGLINSKI - Traditional woodworker
An entertainer as well as a master woodworker, Stan has been a favourite in woodworking circles for 20 years with his seminars and demonstartions. Join in a traditional hand saw race and
see him split a trunk into a beautiful functional object. Stan is always happy to answer all your woodworking questions.
NEIL ELLIS - Finishing Techniques
Neil is a highly professional woodturner, with specials skills in carving and restoring. For many years, Neil taught woodcarving, woodturning, restoration and finishing techniques to adult students from across Australia, and is the author of the best selling book on finishing,
"A Polishers Handbook" . Neil will demonstrate how to use and apply a huge range of finishes to just about any kind of timber.
There are many more interesting and varied exhibitions including:
KERRY NEILL PERFORMANCES & WORKSHOPS - Introducing the Didgeridoo, learn what and how nature makes this magical instrument.
DOUGLAS BELL - who will teach the art of
pyography, or wood burning.
DAVID FOSTER - Restoration and Maintenance expert. Bring in your small items that may be scratched or blemished and he can repair them for you while he demonstrates.
It'll be a terrific expo this year, and anyone who wants to go along should visit
Everything Exhibitions & Events to purchase a ticket.
