Whether you are making the long drive from Brisbane to Cairns, or you happen to be a Townsville local, it's always nice to find somewhere that can cater for all tastes and dietary requirements. Skip the Maccas' brekkie and head to The Tide Cafe for your next breakfast, lunch or catered meal. Just off Gregory Street, this unassuming cafe provides a delectable array of foods for all types of eaters.



If it's brekkie you're after, you can't go past the perennial favourite, Eggs Benedict. Available in both gluten-free and regular options, choose to add ham, bacon, spinach & mushroom, smoked salmon, or spinach, prosciutto and cherry tomatoes. Or for a different take on breakfast, try the Smashed Pumpkin with prosciutto and eggs, beetroot hummus and fresh herbs. All served on sourdough bread, the addition of a seed and nut sprinkle was a delicious extra treat!



For those with a sweet tooth, you may like to select the Waffles. Served with either Nutella, banana, strawberries, maple syrup and ice-cream or bacon, grilled bananas, maple syrup and ice-cream you would be hard put to choose a favourite. For the littlies, there's a kids version available as well.

The coffee was good and the service quick. The lunch menu looks just as engaging and there is also a kids menu offered for both meals. The menu is clearly labelled with options for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan, and the staff were keen to help out with information for those of us with special diets. It is easy to see why they were awarded the Australian Good Food Guide Readers' Choice Award in 2019.

Breakfast options range from simple thick cut toast with spreads for $7, right through to the Big Breakfast for $24. With such a wide variety on the menu, I'm sure that you'll want to visit more than once! Book a table by calling (07) 4431 0432 as the cafe is popular with those in the know. If you do happen to be just stopping into Townsville for a driving break, make sure to take a trip down to the beach to take in the spectacular views and walk off your terrific breakfast before you leave.
