Tick paralysis can be deadly to dogs so take care to protect your dog against ticks this spring.
Spring time is when ticks are prevalent along Australia's east coast so this is the time to start preparing for these unwanted guests in your backyard.
As a pet parent myself I was interested to see Advantix's Ticktember campaign kick-off to raise awareness of this life-threatening disease in dogs. Dr Liisa Ahlstrom, Technical Services Veterinarian of Bayer Australia says, "It's important for pet parents that live in or near, or travel with their pets to the east coast to be aware that September's warmer weather brings with it a greater risk of tick paralysis."
Symptoms of tick paralysis include; wobbly back legs, vomiting, loss of appetite and shortness of breath. Watch out for these symptoms and mark your calendar this September as a reminder to protect your pet.
Liisa's top three protection tips -
1. Search pets every day by running fingers through coat.
2. Apply Advantix for Dogs spot-on treatment to skin on the back between the shoulder blades (for dogs 25kg).
3. Get your pet to a vet immediately if they show any signs.
