If you are headed north along the Bruce Highway, there are some great little spots to stop and explore, and take a rest from driving. One such place is
Tiaro, just 27 kms south of Maryborough and around 230 kms north of Brisbane.

Visitor Informtion Centre and Craft Shop
I like to pop into
Visitor Information Centres – the volunteers are usually a bright and happy bunch who are keen to tell you all about their town. The Tiaro VIC also has a craft shop inside, and a great array of home made goodies including cakes, jams and pickles, and I learned a little about local attractions. Also I learned about the locally made
7s Sauce.

Just outside the VIC is a shelter with some interesting information on some of the local wildlife – the
Mary River Turtle (and I think if no one is looking the kids can sit on it for a photo!). The children will be amused to learn that the Mary River Turtle breathes through its anus!. There is also the Lung Fish, and the Mary River Cod. All are detailed there.

There are some interesting shops, including cafés to stop for food, and if you take a short drive from the highway you will find the historic
Hideaway Hotel, which opened as The Station Hotel way back in 1881 and is still in full swing.

If you have a van there are a couple of free camping spots around Tiaro too.
There are public toilets and a picnic spot behind the VIC - so if you have the family in the car, a great spot to burn off some energy before you continue your drive.
