There are a number of people who are scared of heights. If you suffer from acrophobia, you may want to give these activities a miss. However, if heights make your heart soar and you are addicted to adrenaline, try the following activities high above the ground.

[SECTION]1) O'Reilly's Treetop Walk[/SECTION]

If you want to start off slowly, try O'Reilly's treetop walk at Mount Tambourine, Gold Coast Hinterland. Walking across the canopy amongst the lush greenery and serene surroundings is pretty tame but try climbing up the ladder two stories up above the canopy on a windy day, and it is scarier than it looks. The climb is only suitable for three people on the first platform and two people on the second platform for safety reasons but the rush of the fierce, whirling wind at the top is quite exhilarating. This experience is great for when you are short on cash and want a cheap way to feel 'on top of the world'.

[SECTION]2) Story Bridge Climb[/SECTION]

Once you have conquered the tree top walk, try climbing up the iconic Story Bridge for a bird's eye view of Brisbane city, moving vehicles and tiny, tiny people. You have the option of admiring the surreal views from your lofty viewpoint at dawn, day, twilight or night. Although a night-time climb has a romantic feel to it with pretty twinkling lights in the distance, a day climb has its appeal as well with the sparkling sea and beautiful, blue sky beckoning. It is also easier to see the many people waving at you, all secretly wishing that they have the guts to do what you're experiencing at the moment.

The walk starts by creeping beneath the bridge on a suspended walkway to a platform called the 'halfway house' where the guide will explain about the history of the Story Bridge's construction as well as the history of Brisbane. The top is 80 metres above sea level while you take in the glorious view as the skyscraper city buildings fade into the distant background. You can try the abseil climb as well. Instead of coming down the stairs the boring, normal way, swing down in style with ropes and pulleys. Abseil down the Anchor Pier into Captain Burke Park, about 30 metres below. A climb is approximately between $89 - $130 per Adult depending on the time of day with special offers for family passes. They also have a special rate for annual climbers valid for 12 months if you bring two paying friends with you. At the end of the day, show off your Personal Climb Certificate to your friends with pride!
[SECTION]3) Sky Diving at Redcliffe[/SECTION]

If climbing the Story Bridge is not enough excitement for you, there is always the ultimate height junkie experience which is sky diving ! See if you can convince a group of similar dare-devil friends to come along for the ride and experience extreme thrills at Redcliffe. Freefall from 14,000 ft! It is definitely not easy to top that in terms of height.

Almost anyone over the age of 14 years is eligible and requires no prior training as you will be assisted by a qualified and experienced professional. Feel your heart pumping ferociously when you jump out of the plane and experience a 60 seconds freefall. Then lean back and enjoy the beautiful views of Moreton Bay, Glasshouse Mountains and Bribie Island. The tandem skydive ends with a soft landing on the beach at Redcliffe where you can celebrate with your comrades and brag about how daring you all were at the local pubs. Sky dives include air-conditioned transfers to and from your accommodation, training and instruction and a personalized photo of your skydive. The price for a skydive is $369 or you can combine it with various packages such as an island cruise and a 4WD island tour.
