Vintage fashion markets within a shopping centre? Yes
Westfield Southland ventured into uncharted territory last weekend, offering a vintage and pre-loved fashion market within the shopping mall's centre court.
The Thrifty Fashionista Market, the first of its kind, offered 15 stallholders the chance to sell their vintage and recycled wares to fashion shoppers. Stalls were offered at $50, with all proceeds going to Bayside Special Developmental School.
Amongst the 15 stallholders were three well known fashion bloggers, including Phoebe Montague (Lady Melbourne) Trish Hunter (Trish Hunter Finds) and Candice DeVille (Super Kawaii Mama) selling their very own vintage and pre-loved pieces to fashion shoppers.
The concept of mixing a market of vintage and thrift together in a retail venue is quite an unusual thing to do considering the two shopping genre's are so different. Having said that, feedback from the Thrifty Fashionista Market has been overwhelmingly positive from both shoppers and stallholders alike.
Due to such positive feedback, Westfield Southland's Marketing Department have announced that the Thrifty Fashionista Market will now become the signature event of each fashion season, with the next market due to take place in Spring/Summer 14.
I am told the best way to find out when the next market date is confirmed, is to subscribe to Westfield Southland's newsletter. which can be done here.
Thrifty Fashionista Market
Three cheers for Westfield Southland, offering consumers a chance to buy pre-loved fashion in a shopping centre usually reserved for high street retail. One can only hope this initiative will see other shopping centre's follow suit.
