Down along the Rockingham Foreshore, restaurants and cafes are offering all sorts of great deals to entice you in. When my dad and I noticed a lunch special for $20 at that included a beer, wine or soft drink (and $2 cheaper than the place next door), it was an offer too good to refuse.
To the Perth non-local, this might sound like a fairly mediocre lunch deal, but when you factor in the beautiful beach and Indian Ocean views we were going to enjoy with our lunch, it's actually pretty good value. Plus, any Perth local will tell you that the price of a drink alone is often ridiculous, making our $20 for lunch and a drink sound like an awesome bargain. For families, the Rockingham Foreshore has an extraordinarily large selection of playgrounds, in case the kids want to run around after their meal, making it even more appealing to the wider community.
The
specials board was actually quite impressive, with lots of meals to choose from in this $20 dining deal. You have the option of chicken parmigiana, grilled salmon, spicy beef salad, salt and pepper squid, among others. But don't be fooled by the board – there are more $20 lunch specials available on the main menu, including chicken Caesar salad and fish and chips. I settled on the grilled chicken sandwich while my dad went for the steak sandwich.
I can't currently drink wine, so I had to settle for a softie while my dad went for a cheeky lunchtime glass of red. We were served promptly (it helps to be the first people to sit down for lunch for the afternoon) by a friendly waitress and chose to sit outside.
Our drinks arrived quickly, but there was no water for the table. That's ok – I take my own everywhere and I think my dad is allergic to water. He never drinks it. I only noticed one high chair for the restaurant, but that wasn't an issue given how early we were. It was a tad grubby but my daughter has been in far, far worse.
Our lunch arrived shortly after we ordered, and I was certainly surprised by the size of sandwiches. They were each presented on a long, wooden board and were far bigger than I'd expected.
The Turkish bread was perfectly toasted and the chicken tender and juicy, with a lovely flame-grilled flavour to it. The cheese probably would've been better grilled too, as it fell out of the sandwich, but it was a welcome addition all the same. The sandwiches are also filled with salad and come with a serving of chips.
The steak sandwich was just as juicy, and not marbled with lots of fat, which a lot of steak sandwiches tend to be. It was a lovely, satisfying meal for the price you'll pay for two standard glasses of wine in Perth.
Three Wishes have a variety of menus, including
starters ,
mains and a
kids menu . The menus are typical Australian fodder with a Mediterranean influence that includes pizzas and pastas, and they are also open for
breakfast . The lunch specials are available from Monday to Sunday. You can purchase a range of beer, wine and cocktails to go with your meal.
was a lovely little find on a rare visit to Rockingham. It's great value for money and you certainly can't beat those ocean views while you eat.
