Three Sugars cafe

Warburton is a beautiful little country town situated along the banks of the Yarra River and in the valley below Mt Donna Buang. Warburton is small town with a very welcoming feel to it, although mostly a tourist town it still retains a relaxed and dreamy feel that doesn't scream tourist destination and yet attracts thousands each year, be it for the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, the quaint shops, the base for snow play at Mt Donna Buang, walking tracks, or just a weekend escape, it's popular year round.

One of the many cafes is Three Sugars, it stands out amongst the streetscape and was bustling with activity when others seemed quiet, so the choice was made easy by sticking with what was popular.

What to choose?

Meals here are simple but offer a wide variety with the likes of pies, lasagne, toasted sandwiches, vegetarian patties, burgers and chips, cakes and so on. Prices are reasonable with most meals under $15.

We ordered salmon patties with chips and salad, toasted sandwiches along with hot chocolates. The meals arrived quickly however, staff were a bit flustered with the influx of customers and it resulted in orders being mixed up and tables receiving wrong orders.

Apart from the table mix ups and confusion, customers seemed content and satisfied with their offerings. Our meals were tasty and I would happily go back as it has a great family feel to it that's not polished or overpriced, just simple meals in a warm environment that makes everyone comfortable.

The old swing bridge

After your meal, take a stroll through the main street and cross the river on the old swing bridge, follow the river for 500 metres and cross back over the river back to the end of the shops. It's a really pleasant stroll and being at the foothill of the mountain the greenery and ferns take shape as you follow the babbling Yarra River. Take some bread along for the friendly ducks that sit by or paddle in the river.

Go and enjoy what Warburton has to offer.

We've been to the 3 sugars cafe. Lovely coffee, real chai tea (not that powdered stuff) and yummy hot chocolate and chips when you come back down from the snow. My favourite place in Waburton.

Don't bother with 3 sugars. Last time I went there the portions were stingy and when I conmplained about hair in my soup the manager was rude and arrogant .
