If you're in the Abbotsford vicinity, then pop on down to the iconic Convent grounds. It's a hive of activity this summer and there's lots to do, see and eat. Here are my favourite (and regular) places to drop in for a bite.

1. Kappaya is a stead fast favourite of mine and with the Spring weather approaching (or is it receding) folks are heading down to The Convent to enjoy late lunch in the alfresco section behind The Convent Bakery.

I just had to let you know about a new dish that Kappaya has introduced to the menu, it's $12 and seriously good. I've had it three times in the last week and a bit. Yep, really.

Beautifully poached chicken in a delectable broth is served with brown rice and sesame seeds, and a fresh salad dressed with japanese dressing. The walnuts add fantastic creamy crunch and texture whilst the dressing is a delightful marriage of sesame oil, soy and saltiness.

You will come back again and again for this dish. It's at an excellent price point and perfectly washed down with their brown rice tea or green tea.

2. The seasonal soups at Cam's. I did write a post about this not too long ago - but this one in particular, was a real hit. Tomato based with white beans, celery, carrot and fresh herbs - super light and tasty For $8 you can not go wrong. It comes with a great wedge of sourdough baguette and butter.

3. And lastly if you need a little sweet something to finish off lunch, head to The Convent Bakery. The day I was there the baker's son had just created a fabulous new bread; sourdough with hazelnuts and chocolate! His surprise ingredient was beer in the dough. It tasted a treat and had such a more-ish flavoursome sweet and nutty crunch. It would be perfect lathered with butter and served with a hot tea.

They often cut up their produce for you to try - but you'll need to pick your time. I was there earlier in the day and had just caught these goodies out of the oven.

Definitely check out The Abbotsford Convent for your next late lunch sojourn. With the Shadow Electric in full swing and the Open Cinema running in summer, it's the perfect place to grab some food - cruise around, have a drink and enjoy the festivities.
