Personalised coffee – They make it how you like it
I like it hot and strong (it's so hard to resist an analogy with men here) but I'm professional so I wouldn't even hint at it. When you order a hot drink you can personalise it. I have 80% not 50% chocolate. The kids like it milkier and weaker, they like marshmallows with it but I choose the cookie, so we all get it how we want it at the Three daughters Café.
Cakes are so tempting but I'm saving the calories for the rich hot chocolate
Surprise, surprise, the owner, Daniel has three daughters! When you get your loyalty card stamped it's little girl symbol. I asked Daniel if I drink enough hot chocolate would get another daughter?
This café is priced as you would expect from an Ivanhoe café. A small take away coffee or hot chocolate will set you back $4, but it really is deliciously rich. The most popular coffee bought at the Three daughters Café is a latte.
Seating indoors and outside
This is an intimate café on Heidleberg Rd not far from the restaurant with the pokies. The competition is stiff with about 70 cafes, restaurants and take-away shops, many within a few hundred metres along the little shopping strip. You'll find them near the corner of Waterdale Rd. They have outdoor seating with large umbrellas and a water bowl for dogs.
I have been to Three daughters Café quite a few times now and it's nearly always full. They have many regular diners and a busy takeaway drink clientele.
Mum and three kids enjoying a cafe break
This café is popular for families, business meetings, retirees and young people. Their most popular meals are toasties and avocado smash. They have funky names for their menu items, the latter is called Smashing ($17.50). Sweet Piggy is a sweet maple bacon dish ($20). The healthy mama (muesli, fruit and Greek yoghurt) caught my eye and is only $12. If you want to know what the fancy pants is you'll just have to call in.
How good does this spinach and ricotta pie look?
Some focaccias, wraps and sandwiches are on display and, although I have never sampled them, I admire the cakes every time I visit. I know I have incredible discipline. The donuts look as good as you can get but my preference would be a rich chocolate dessert or the lemon tart or the ..... I know there's definitely a theme here.
Which would you choose?
Three daughters Café are open seven days a week from 7am-5pm Mon – Fri and 7.30-4pm on weekends. They cater for gluten intolerance and vegetarians. I highly recommend the 80% hot chocolate. Next visit mine is for free and I am adding to my family. I need to balance out all the boys I have.
