The bobsled can't run when wet, so after many years of walking past the closed sign at the Bobsled in ski season, we finally got to spend an hour tearing down the 700 metres of fast track.

The bobsled runs like a luge, with a brake to manage speed, and high rim sides on the curves for the speed demons. You are pulled slowly to the top and then gravity brings you down, as fast as you dare. All the time taking a scenic trip though Australian bush land in the beautiful National Park.

A great family activity as children under 9 (and under 130 cm tall) can still ride, but with an adult.

One ride is $7 - we opted for the 20 for $97 and spend a full hour tearing up and down the mountain. If you are in Thredbo in the summer for a few days, consider the all day Mountain pass , which includes bobsled rides as well as chairlift, tennis and golf and entry to the Leisure Centre (swimming and gym).

As they say, Thredbo in Summer? You'll like it!
