Here's Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury Book Fairs team member Philip Howe with a tower of book cartons filled and ready for the Lifeline Giant Book Fair that will be taking place in Thornleigh on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of April 2015.
"It takes big numbers of volunteers, books and boxes to make a book fair", says Philip.
"For example, for the Thornleigh fair, we'll be bringing at least 1,500 full cartons of books. Line those cartons up end-to-end, and the line would be longer than the main span of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Stack them one on top of another and the tower of book cartons would be higher than the bridge."
The good news is that Lifeline will not be lining up book boxes on the Harbour Bridge, or indeed any bridge, in the foreseeable future. Instead they will be bringing them to Thornleigh, packed with their widest-ever range of quality books, very many in mint condition.
Go along to Thornleigh Community Centre on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April and see for yourself– the fair will be open from 8am till 5pm both days. If you haven't ever been to a Lifeline Book fair, you're in for a very pleasant surprise!
The fairs are one of Lifeline's primary means of raising the funds necessary to sustain its wide range of services to those in crisis or in serious need of support. And yes, they're also a great way of building bridges into the local community.
