The residents and staff of Finlandia Village, Thornlands want to send out their special invitation to you and say, 'Welcome! Come and join in the fun at the FinnFest 2014' so here it is:

%%Tervetuloa! Tule ja liity hauskaan FinnFest 2014 tapahtumaan.

The annual FinnFest is being held on Saturday 23 August 2014 in the grounds of Finlandia Village, 343 Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, Thornlands. The celebrations start at 8.00am and wind up around 2.00pm

Central among the attractions available on the day include a large array of traditional Finnish handicrafts made by FinnCare day respite clients and Finlandia Village residents. These handicrafts are all fashioned using the genuine Finnish customs learned by the makers as a significant part of their cultural heritage. Each item means a lot to its maker and your purchase will help spread the love and friendship used in its construction throughout your community.

In addition to handicrafts there will be a huge array of wonderful Finnish delicacies. You are sure to have a new all-time favourite sweet cake or slice by the end of the day. Be sure to try all the favourites including Karaelian pies, 'Pulla' coffee breads, marble cakes and pulla-braids. A tea or coffee will help make the experience just that bit more fantastic!

Some of the more enthusiastic fete goers can be fairly young so, to meet their needs, the residents have arranged for a jumping castle, face painting (all natural ingredients), pony rides, BUBBLES! and lots, lots more. After they've tried out all the activities these young fete goers will be begging you to put them to bed, they'll be that tired!

But it's not all for the kids, sponsors, including Lappset (Playground Equipment for all Ages), George Harnett Funerals, Brisbane Automatic Gate Systems and the Bendigo Bank at Victoria Point as well as Faith Lutheran College are making the day one to remember.

A fantastic hoard of major raffle prizes will be distributed this year. This is really one for the parents who will not want to pass up a chance of winning – you know this is your lucky day, right? The goodies up for grabs include a 55" LCD Smart TV, an Ipad Mini, a $200 Westfields shopping voucher and much, much more. An early arrival at the Fest will help to ensure the tickets are not all sold before you get there.

The annual FinnFest, held every August, is the Village's major fund raiser and all proceeds raised go directly into supporting the work done by the Australian Finnish Homes Association at the Village and in the general community.

Finlandia Village is central to that work and is an award winning residential aged care facility and the nation's only aged care provider for the Australian Finnish community. It caters for permanent and respite residents and is an ageing-in-place home known for its 'Restorative Care' philosophy and approach to aged care.

The residents and staff are also committed to helping their local community. The superbly equipped seniors' gym run by two experienced physio aides and assisted by a consulting physiotherapist is used by residents and is made available to seniors residing in other facilities in the Redlands area.

All residents' meals are prepared on-site in a custom built commercial grade kitchen which is large enough to provide the much loved delicacies found in the Village's Poro café. In addition, the kitchen provides meals for distribution by Finncare (Home and Community Care) to clients in the Brisbane area.

Finlandia Village has a strong Finnish heritage providing support services and care options for older people from the Australian Finnish and Scandinavian communities as well as the wider Australian community.

WHERE TO PARK:
As usual, parking will be at a premium and it can be quite dangerous parking on the busy roadway outside the Village. As we would like to keep you all safe and happy the management of Faith Lutheran College has kindly offered the use of their car park. The College is 400 metres back towards Victoria Point from the Village.

Parking is FREE and we are running a shuttle bus between the car park and the Village for the safety and convenience of all our FinnFest guests.

Set your GPS to; 1-15 Beveridge Road, Thornlands and you can't miss the car park.
