Welcome to This Month at the Movies, the first edition of our new monthly movie guide. Every month we'll be featuring the latest and greatest movie selections for your consideration. In addition to this, you can expect any major movie news and brand new theatrical trailers that are a must-watch.

After what seems like an eternity, the movie industry is finally in the early stages of returning to some form of normalcy, or at the very least a new normal, with cinemas re-opening around the globe. This means all those highly anticipated blockbusters that were due to be released over the American summer are just on the horizon. With restrictions beginning to ease, many local government authorities have deemed it safe to be out and about under certain guidelines. These conditions include being able to sit at a restaurant as long as guests are socially distanced, and more recently expanded to clean and socially distanced movie theatres. So make sure to support your local cinemas.

Please note: advice may differ depending on your location, so please follow the health guidelines within your state and city area.

If you are one of those people who are more comfortable being isolated in their own surroundings, then there are a few exciting and nostalgic options available to you. A number of drive-in movie theatres are beginning to pop up around town to check out. There is, of course, the classic 50's style Skyline drive-in at Blacktown courtesy of Events Cinemas. We have also seen the inventive rooftop drive-in at Moore Park near Fox Studios featuring classic movies, courtesy of the team that brought us Movin' Bed. Now Disney and the guys from Openair Cinemas have also joined the party, with a brand-new concept called the Disney plus Drive-in . At this stage, the event will be travelling to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Guests can expect all their Disney favourites with Marvel Mondays, Star Wars Wednesdays, Pixar Sundays and all the other beloved classics. Details can be found here .

In film news, at the end of last month, Warner Bros. had a global online fan event to promote their brand new slate of movies based off the DC Comics brand. Promotional material was released for Wonder Woman 1984 and the new Suicide Squad , not to mention the first trailer for The Batman starring Robert Pattinson (make sure to check out the new trailer section below). Director James Wan's Aquaman 2 was also announced to be in production, in addition to a new Flash movie starring Ezra Miller and the returning Ben Affleck as Batman. Sometime in the future audiences can also expect to see a Black Adam movie from Warner Bros. starring Dwayne Johnson. The studio has been flirting with the concept for a number of years, but it seems as though the great nemesis of Shazam will be featuring in his very own antihero origin movie. It was also announced that Zack Snyder would be releasing his director's cut version of the Justice League onto the streaming service HBO max. The film will be split into four parts so it can be watched as a series or in its entirety. The total runtime of the movie is estimated to be around 4 hours.

In other news, at the end of last month, we were also saddened to hear about the passing of actor Chadwick Bosman, most famous for his critically acclaimed role in Black Panther . The film was a cultural phenomenon grossing over 1.3 billion US dollars worldwide, with plans for a sequel to be released in 2022. Black Panther 2 was in the early stages of pre-production at Marvel Studios and Disney, and had yet to begin filming. There is no news at this early stage about the future of the Marvel franchise. Chadwick Boseman also featured in films including 42, Get On Up, Captain America: Civil War , Avengers: Infinity War and the highest-grossing movie of all time Avengers: Endgame.
Now for your consideration are our movie picks for the month of September. Enjoy.
