Taking delivered meals to the next level
I'm a busy person. Who isn't right? And I do love to cook - desperately love - even if I'm not amazing at it. But the problem I face, and I'm sure many others do too, is not having the time to sit down and plan meals before I go to do my weekly shopping, which almost always results in me throwing out veggies that have gone off before I've figured out what to do with them.
Enter my new favourite friends and hottest new local business this side of the country - This Little Pig Went to Market, ala two little pigs after my own heart.
I love the idea of having my meals delivered to me, only thing is, I'm also a control freak and sometimes don't trust a 'pre-packaged' meal because I want know what's in it. But This Little Pig has taken pre-packaged to new heights.
So what do you get in a box from This Little Pig? Two meals for two nights, for two people. Fresh, local, free range ingredients and an easy to follow recipe (even if you have two left trotters) with step by step instructions - with fun and handy hints, because cooking absolutely should bring a smile to your face. All beautifully packaged with a ribbon to boot and delivered to your door each Saturday. Voila - dinner!
Absolutely everything is provided - there's no looking at a recipe and thinking 'bugger I don't have any eggs or cinnamon' or whatever, they even supply the tablespoon of oil needed for your frying pan! All for $65 a box.
Each week, the two meals on the menu change, adding a little extra variety to your life. My box was Butterflied lamb with Israeli cous cous and Crumbed Chicken with beetroot infused quinoa. Ah. May. Zing!
Let me just say, the meals are delicious, the produce nutritious and I've found my new favourite weekend treat. Something I really enjoyed about it was learning to cook things I'd not cooked with ingredients I hadn't cooked with before - like kale and quinoa and Israeli cous cous (I know I'm a bit behind). The recipes were super user-friendly with step by step instructions which leave very little room for error.
I could barely contain myself rorm sticking my face in and chowing down!
And an added bonus - the salads for both night's meals were way more than ample for us which meant, event better value for money with leftovers for lunch the next day.
Three top suppliers for the This Little Pig boxes include Frank Torres Butcher in North Perth for the meaty goodness, Golden Choice Fruit and Vegetables in Subiaco for the obvious and Kailis Brothers for gourmet seafood needs.
