If asked to reflect on life at 22, you'd probably find yourself retracing the steps taken on a winding path, filled with choices and challenges that have shaped who you've become. At 22, life feels like a whirlwind of potential, dreams and an eagerness to define yourself. You’re just beginning to understand the world, your place in it, and the vastness of what you could become and finding your purpose. There's excitement and possibility - with a big dose of uncertainty.

Decisions about relationships, careers and personal identity seem monumental for a 22 year old, but what do we middle-agers feel about the decisions we make at that age? Have they shaped who we are now? Would we do anything differently? What have we learned that is worth sharing with a 22-year-old today as they think about the future and navigate life?

This idea is beautifully explored in a brand new podcast, This is You at 22, now available on Spotify and Amazon Music. Harriet MacDonald, a curious 22-year-old, interviews middle-aged professionals from diverse backgrounds about their lives at 22 and how their decisions have shaped their lives. What shines through is that the pressures of figuring out everything at 22 now seem less critical. We've learned that life is full of changes (planned and unplanned) and many of the things we worried about at 22 either worked themselves out or became irrelevant. The intensity of youth becomes tempered by the wisdom of knowing that success doesn’t always follow a straight line. Career-wise, the pursuit of status and achievement might have given way to a desire for purpose, balance and fulfilment.

The perspective of time can reveal that many of the things we couldn’t see or appreciate at 22 become clear: resilience, self-compassion, and the importance of living authentically. Life may have turned out differently than we imagined, but often, it is those unexpected turns that bring the richest experiences.

Episode 1 of This is You at 22 is an engaging conversation with a former finance broker who, through a series of twists and turns, landed a dream job in the world of art at Christie's luxury auction house. It's a reaffirmation that decisions made when you're 22 don't always dictate where you'll be in the future if you remain open to opportunity, change and challenge.

This is You at 22 is a gem of a podcast and can be found on Spotify here and on Amazon Music here . It will also be available soon on Apple Podcasts.

Give This is You at 22 a listen, and share it with a 22-year-old who might just need to hear that it's okay to take time to find yourself, your purpose and your path. And - it's never too late to reinvent yourself.
