Set within a historic factory building that was a part of the University of Adelaide's Thebarton Campus, offers a good range of brunch-style dishes, some of which are quite unique. Booking ahead is advised if you want to secure a seat.
The buttermilk hotcakes in the Apple Crumble Hot Cakes had a cake-like texture without being too heavy, and the stewed and vanilla apples still retained a bit of bite. Some crunch was provided by the shortbread crumble and toffee pecans, and the dolce de leche, a Latin American caramel sauce, added a touch of caramel flavour. The vanilla ice cream served with the hotcakes was notable for being wrapped in candy floss.
The piece of fried chicken in their Fried Chicken Burger was juicy, with the crisp coating setting of the flesh nicely. Bacon and tomato relish imparted the burger with a hint of smoky flavour and freshness was provided by the coleslaw. We chose to have the cheese on the side so we could add as much as we want to the burger. Served with the burger were sweet potato fries and aioli dipping sauce.
When ordering the Bao Buns, diners have the choice of either slow-cooked sticky pork or salt and pepper tofu. The pork that we chose was succulent with a good amount of flavour. A hint of tanginess was provided by the pickled vegetables. Siracha mayonnaise added a bit of heat and some crunch was provided by crushed peanuts. The bao buns acted as a good foil to the pork and its texture was not too chewy.
For those looking for a quick meal, a selection of pastries and sandwiches are displayed at the counter. Off-street parking is available in the carpark near the cafe.
