The Butterfly Club is a super fun place to be at any time. Tucked down a lane way off Little Collins Street in the CBD, it is one of Melbourne's better kept secrets.

I was recently at the Butterfly Club to see Bobby and the Pins perform their show Glamping . This gives a great idea of the type of slightly quirky entertainment you might hope to see at the Butterfly Club. It has smallish theatres, seating around 75 audience members, giving the audience an intimate experience.

After seeing and enjoying the performance, we explored the Butterfly Club premises. It's situated in quite a long, narrow building, with venues and bars on several floors. We wandered downstairs, and were greeted like old friends by Trevor Jones . Trevor explained that his piano bar show, Trevor's Thirsty Thursdays , was about to start. And so we waited to see the action.

This is a perfect venue for a post-show drink and chill out. Trevor's act is most entertaining, and his repertoire is impressive (okay, he has a little help with the lyrics from his iPad!). But given that he spanned music from Les Misérables, The Lion King, Phil Collins and Miley Cyrus, as well as tackling Singing In the Rain (on request from my Dave), it's hardly surprising that he needed a little help.

Trevor handled all styles of music most professionally, and happily took audience requests. Audience participation is encouraged (and given with verve!). We were left wondering if we were the only people in the world who didn't know the lyrics to The Lion King songs, so enthusiastic was the audience involvement.

This is also an 'open mic' session, meaning that audience members are welcome to join Trev on the stage and sing - with or without his accompaniment. A couple did a fantastic version of Anastacia's I'm Outta Love while we were there.

The best thing about all of this is - it's free! Yes, you are encouraged to buy a drink at the bar, but of course that's up to you.

I'm not sure exactly how long the show goes for, but it was still in full swing when we left shortly before midnight. Trevor at one point described it as a 'show with no end'.

You can find Trevor's Thirsty Thursdays at the Butterfly Club, Carson Place, Melbourne, from 10.30pm until late each Thursday.
