Thirsty Merc gave us 20 Good Reasons why we love them. Triple M and Noble Events & Touring present 'Thirsty Merc' in their Back to the Grind Tour at The Arkaba on April 15th. The evening began with the the opening acts Cosmo Thundercat, followed by Tequila Mockingbyrd. Thirsty Merc haven't aged a bit in 14 years, having formed in 2002 and they still sound incredible. Releasing their first single in 2003 and new album 'Shifting Gears' in 2015, their sound still captivates the audience as much as it did when they first began.
Thirsty Merc current members include Rai Thistlethwayte, Mick Skelton, Phil Stack and Matt Smith. The set-list for the Back to Grind Tour featured the songs that made them famous, along with tracks from their 2015 album 'Shifting Gears'. The crowd sang along to the chorus of
'In The Summertime', 'Someday Someday' and
'The Hard Way'. These songs were huge hits for Thirsty Merc back in the 2000's but it was '
20 Good Reasons' that everyone was waiting to hear. '
20 Good Reasons' was voted song of the year in 2008 and reached number one on iTunes in Australia, and was the song that made them known to a lot of fans today.
They told the audience that during
'Timeless Beauty' one woman from the Sydney show proposed. 'Timeless Beauty' is from the Shifting Gears album, this song is so beautiful and has the soul that we all fell in love with from our favourite tracks. 'The Good Life' is another favourite, it makes you realise what you have and where you're going. This one fits well with the tour because they've had a great career and after the release of their 2015 album have a long one ahead of them.
Cosmo Thundercat are an alternative pop/rock band from Adelaide with members Anthony Callisto, Sammy Bruno and David Mazzarelli. They formed in 2014 and since then have gone on to produce 7 tracks including
'Come on Up', 'By Your Door', 'Too Close for Comfort', 'Cigarette Lover', 'Darlah', 'Won't Let You Down' and
'Raging Wars'.
Tequila Mockingbyrd are a punk rock group from Melbourne. They formed in YEAR, members include Jess, Josie and Estelle. They have released two albums T-Byrds Are Go and Fight and Flight. This includes songs '
Everyone Down', 'I Smell Rock n Roll', 'Shut Me Down', 'Money Tree', 'Catalist', 'Somebody Put Something in My Drink', 'So Not Me', 'Good Time', 'Jagerbomb', 'Half of the Man', 'Never Go Home', 'Why Are We Still Friends' and
'This Ain't Dead'.
Thirsty Merc's Adelaide show was almost sold-out and its easy to see why. Their fans stand behind them because they have the passion they had when they formed, the sound they've created over the years and a loyal bond with their fans. A great performance, 5/5 Stars.
