Third Place Cafe is an understated, unpretentious cafe with a welcoming atmosphere that draws a diverse crowd. Situated amidst the shopping beat on Maroochydore's Aerodrome Rd with the ocean lolling close by, I consider it the best place on the Sunshine Coast for quality coffee and service.
At Third Place, the friendly baristas are always up for a chat. It's the place where you'll be greeted by name and asked if you'd like your 'usual'. Coffee is not bitter or bland but full-flavoured with a golden crema served from a very sleek coffee machine. Chill out music in the background provides good listening and ambience for reading a book, getting lost in your own thoughts, writing or meaningful conversations.
The name 'Third Place' was conceptualized by sociologist Ray Oldenburg and refers to "places that are not our work or home where we can gather without demands, unburden, learn about what's going on in our communities, socialize, and have discussions etc. They are places we all need that have great effects on our psychology and social lives." Other places that are categorized as third places are libraries, bookstores, and churches.
Bringing people together, nurturing deeper connections and making friends, feels intrinsic to Third Place Cafe. If you live or work nearby, why not make it you're local? If you're passing through check it out.
