Although small, Mypolonga is filled with plenty of things to explore. You will experience the town's rich heritage as well as views of the Murray River. A discovery trail is available for those who wish to take a leisurely stroll around town.

The Mypolonga Institute was built approximately 15 years after the establishment of the township. It replaced the original wood and iron building which was hot in summer and cold in winter. The opening of this new stone building meant that many social and cultural activities could be hosted. There were concerts, dances, a library and a cinema among others. Today, the building still stands along Green Street and continues to play its role in the community.

With church services held in private homes, funds were soon raised to build the Uniting Church and St Ethelfreda's Anglican Church further down the street. Constructed in 1933, St Ethelfreda's was named after Ely Cathedral in England. In between the two churches was the town's former bakehouse which operated in the mid-1900s.

The town landing and its vicinity used to be a busy place. Paddle steamers came up the river with goods and mail. These were then transported to the pioneer store and post office by horse and cart. Milk boats also collected milk cans from here to Murray Bridge. Irene Hughes Park now occupies the site of the town's first hub and you'll find an old drainage water pump that had been relocated from near the river.

In 1920, the current general store and post office was established to replace the earlier pioneer store and post office. Getting supplies was hard in the early days and so the store played a very important role. It provided the early farming families with almost everything they needed. Next door was the butcher's shop.

Over the road, you'll see the Mypolonga Primary School with its original galvanized iron building. This first school building had a single classroom and accommodated 60 children. Two rooms were later added as numbers increased. Today, the school's enterprise scheme which teaches students a range of business, organisational and financial skills is highly sought after.

Apricot lovers would be pleased to know about the town's third-generation family-run apricot orchard. Aussie Apricots grow, pick, cut, sun-dry, size, wash and process all of their fruit. The product range includes confectionary, jams and chutneys, and you are welcome to visit their shop (255 Carawatha Drive) on weekdays. You might just find the chocolate-dipped apricot or apricot truffle that you're after.

Lastly, the beautiful Woodlane Reserve , approximately seven kilometres from town, is worth visiting while you're in Mypolonga. It serves as a great picnic spot right on the river's edge. There is also a playground, boat ramp and public toilets for your convenience.
