Not only is Denham a great base to discover Shark Bay, the township itself can easily be explored on foot.



Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery & Visitor Centre serves as the first stop for many tourists. It showcases the significance and history of the region in an informative way. Displays include soundscapes, interactive multimedia, rare objects and more. You'll learn all about the special qualities that make Shark Bay a significant place. The region is as diverse as it can be in terms of the environment. There's also significant cultural diversity, as well as the entanglement of nature and culture.



During World War II, a battle occurred between HMAS Sydney II and HSK Kormoran off the coast of Shark Bay. You can gain an insight into what happened at the Fire on the Water exhibition. A 3D film tells the story every 30 minutes. Entry is free.



Exploring the streets of Denham is easy with its two-kilometre discovery trail . You'll pass various points of interest including those related to the pearlers. Pearling lugger The Galla was built in 1929 for dredge-pearling and fishing. It featured an expansive counter-stern unique to the region. A sculpture that sought to reflect the Eendracht voyage can also be found on the foreshore.



As for something to eat, I'd recommend takeaway from Shark Bay Pizza . The Local came with chicken, bacon, pumpkin, capsicum, eggplant and spinach. It was perfectly cooked (in a woodfired oven) and tasted delicious.
