So the April Holidays have sprung on us as fast as summer has left our shores. And, with all the public holidays packed into this holiday, there are only a few days of school holiday time. However those days can still be long filled with a monotone of: 'What can we today Mum, I am bored?"

This soon becomes a dilemma of epic proportion when you open your wallet to find only a few dollars left from the week's budget.

So where do you go to enjoy a great family day out without being charged the earth?

1. Museums

There are a number of museums around Perth that offer you the chance to entertain the kids and give you a little peace and quiet. Some museums may require a gold coin donation; however for a couple hours of entertainment this is something that can be value for money.

2. Bunnings

Bunnings offer some amazing holiday crafts that can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. I say all, because I found myself assembling a money box. Booking is essential, and it is best to contact the Bunnings closest to you to find out if they are holding a holiday program. I know the one in Balcatta is, and they have already received quite a few bookings.
3. Sand Castles and Picnics

The beach can offer you an array of activities, and it is for free. If you prepare well, you can certainly spend the day swimming, building sandcastles and enjoying a BBQ lunch by the sea.

4. Hiking or Biking

The Heritage trail runs for a good distance. The path has some subtle hills but nothing that a child could not handle. There are many seats along the way where you can take a rest. And, this is a great way for kids to spend their energy, see a little nature and enjoy a small snack along the way. Of course cycling the Heritage Trail is fun, but if you don't have bikes, walking it is just as much fun.

5. A Treasure Hunt

There are a range of historical landmarks around Perth, and a treasure hunt could start in the back of your own yard. This activity may require that you do a little research of historical buildings and places in your area. You can create a list and an "adventure" map so kids can tick off things they see. This adventure could be a walking/cycling/driving trail which is entirely dependable on you and your access to transport. However, there will be a few hungry tummies so don't forget to pack some snacks/food for the troops to eat!

Whatever you choice, there is adventure to be had these holidays. And with Easter being on one of the weekends, you can quite easily create a mini egg hunt as part of the holiday experience.
