Take the stress out of your day and make lunch fun
Here at WeekendNotes we have loads of ideas for your weekend leisure time and evening entertainment. But you don't have to wait for the weekend to do something fun. If you work in the Adelaide CBD, why not brighten up your weekday by heading out at lunch time and doing something a little different. Here are a few ideas; some sneaky and some cheeky. Some to do alone and some to share with your workmates.

Hop on the free 99B or 99C bus. There are many stops all over the city that travel in a loop, so it will bring you back to where you got on. Take a tour of your town with one going up to North Adelaide and around the parklands. Perfect for a rainy day.

There is nothing like a little nature to soothe your thoughts away from work. Try the Botanic Gardens on North Tce, and Veale Gardens on South Terrace. Image by Kat May.

Go shopping for Christmas gifts and avoid the stress in December.

Go to the Central Market and buy a big bunch of flowers. That will get the office talking about where you have been for lunch and with whom.

Go see a movie and come back to work late. Check movie length as some are shorter than others. Skip the 15 minutes of trailers and arrive as the movie starts.

Eat something for lunch you have never tried before. Many fine restaurants have bargain lunch specials.

Check out the free entertainment at Victoria Square - usually in the warmer months and sometimes on a Friday.

Go to a big building and climb some stairs for 15 minutes.

Try some new perfume or aftershave at a department store.

Visit an art gallery. It's not all paintings. There are sculptures, glass, and videos at many contemporary venues. The SA Art Gallery has changing exhibitions so go see something new.

Wear something special one day and go to the Hilton, Adina or The Mayfair Hotels. Order a cocktail and sit on the lounge and read your book. Smile at the beautiful people who pass you by.

Try the many free bike hire venues all over town. Try a quick ride along the paths on the south or west parklands.

If you love books try visiting somewhere you have never been. Image by Kat May.

Get lost for an hour in a bookstore or library. Adelaide has many libraries to choose from. City libraries in Francis St off Rundle Mall and Hutt St, and the State Library and University Libraries are free to read. This image above is from the historic Josiah Symons Library which is fascinating and open to the public.

Hop on the tram then take a short walk to the southern parklands. It is not so busy down there. Places to enjoy are Veale Gardens to the west and Pityrilla Park to the east. Wander around and eat your lunch in the fresh air.

Stop by the Central Market and buy some gourmet goodies to cook a nice meal one night.

Zen out at the Himenji Garden on South Terrace, a short walk from the tram.

Visit some Op Shops in the City where you have never been.

Send an email in advance to your colleagues and have a picnic in the park lunchtime. Take a blanket and a tablecloth. BYO lunch and drinks. They will be happy you took the time to organise it.

Take your camera or iPad on a photo walk and get creative for an hour.

You could write these ideas and more on some little bits of paper and keep them in a jar on your desk at work. Maybe your workmates could try them out too. Try doing one special or different activity a week. Having something to look forward and interesting will be fun and boost your emotional wellbeing.
