I have enjoyed several holidays to Ohau and though expensive, it still has great things to do that don't break the budget.

One of my favourites is taking the local buses wherever they go. It takes you away from the razzle dazzle of Waikiki and even offers a seniors rate of $2.50.

A bus can take you to Diamond head, a walk that's interesting and memorable. It will take you a half day so take water, hats, sunscreen and sensible shoes.

It costs $5 to get into the park area to climb. Of course, there's the beach or snorkel at Hanauma bay, but get there early as it's busy.

The Outrigger has live music every night and in the grounds of the Pink Palace there are free Hawaiian culture shows after 4 every day. There are free firework shows every Friday evening.
