Glen Iris is 10 kilometres south-east of the city. The suburb has a great range of stores, high-quality cafes and restaurants and plenty of fun for the family

Shopping

Tooronga Shopping Centre is at the corner of Tooronga and Toorak Roads in Glen Iris. You'll find fresh produce at Scicluna's , natural and organic products at Healthy Life , and an extensive range of books at Dymocks . If you are after some pampering, the Indulgence Skin Clinic offers massages and treatments. Tooronga is open from 8.30am each day (and open till 6pm Monday to Wednesday, 9pm Thursday & Friday, and to 5.30pm on Saturday, and 4pm on Sundays).

One great second store in the area is The Warehouse furniture store at 2 Paran Place in Glen Iris. Check out their items before they go for low prices on eBay.

For wine and liquor, try 161 Cellars on Burke Road. They also have an extensive range of craft beers. The store has wine tastings from 4-7pm every second Fridays. A Duncans Cellars is also on the High Street shopping strip at number 62-66, and you'll find their specials here.

Cafes and Restaurants

Age of Sails Coffee Brewers are located in the Tooronga Centre. They are open from 7am to 4pm weekdays and serve coffee, breakfast and lunch to hungry shoppers in a comfortable setting. Here's some pics of their daily menu items . Another pleasant Glen Iris cafe is Beans Republique at 1461 Malvern Road. They open at 6.30am on weekdays, and 7am on weekends, and close 4.30pm daily.

A top recommendation for restaurants in the area is Preserve Kitchen open every day except Mondays, with a fine dining menu that includes pastas, pork belly, and market fresh fish. You can make a booking on their website . Although this is a rather fine establishment, they still offer a children's menu, and it is also BYO (wine only).

Fun for the Kids

Howard Dawson Reserve is at 324-366 Burke Road in Glen Iris. There is a playground for the kids to climb and explore, and good facilities. You can find more information here .

The Harold Holt Swim Centre in Glen Iris is a well-known Melbourne swimming pool and venue. The centre is open till 9pm Monday to Thursday, 8pm on Friday, and 7pm on weekends. Here's the links to the prices , and pool availability ,

For a bit more of an adventure, try Bounce Inc . Their website describes this "massive indoor trampoline park" with "an awesome Free-Jump Arena, trampoline Slam Dunk, Big Bag, Dodgeball and Wall tramps". Here's a full review . They are at 2 Weir Street in Glen Iris, and they are open from 10am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm on Saturday, and 9am to 7pm on Sundays.
