Cervantes is only about 1.5 hours north of Perth. That means it is the closest town to Perth to having a Getaway, without having to drive too far.

Cervantes attracted me initially because of the little swimming area. The waters are shallow and if you can paddle a canoe, you probably could row to the little island not too far off the shore. While I was there, I saw someone kite surf to this island, which means that it should be easy by kayak or canoe.

Cervantes is a small town. However it has a huge range of activities that can easily be done in one weekend.

The Pinnacles Desert

The Pinnacles Desert is literally just up the road from Cervantes and is part of the Nambung National park. This dessert is well known for its array of yellow sand and rocks. You probably have seen thousands of photos of the Pinnacles in tourist brochures.

The Pinnacles Desert has a range of options from visiting the discovery centre, tackling the short walk area, or driving through the Pinnacles. All are very entertaining. There are parking areas for cars through the driving loop; however some areas can be a little congested. We chose to park in one spot, have a good walk around and then park at the next available spot.

Lobster Shack

This is probably a must if you are staying for a night. Accommodation can be found at the Pinnacles Caravan Park.

The Lobster Shack has, of course, the freshest Lobster around. It was probably one of the best meals I have had for a very long time and would easily go back for this alone.

The factory tour lasts about 90 minutes, and they also offer other tours such as whale watching, fishing charters, lobster tours and sunset tours.

Golf

Cervantes has an 18 hole golf course for all those golf enthusiasts. As Cervantes is close to a few towns such as Lancelin and Jurien Bay, golfers can enjoy a game while the rest of the family either go sight-seeing or spend time on the beach side.

The course is in fairly good shape and is looked after by a bunch of locals. While I did not bring my clubs, I was told you can hire clubs from the Pinnacles Caravan Park.

As I was only there for two days, I did have a quick stop to look at the course. To my surprise, it was busy, and made a point to bring my clubs on my next visit.
